Welcome to the blog for Calderstones Mansion, home to The Reader and the future International Centre for Shared Reading.
Situated in the beautiful surroundings of Calderstones Park in Liverpool, the Mansion House has a rich and interesting history but after lying empty for many years it needs a great deal of hard work to return it to it’s former glory. The Reader want to bring the Mansion House back to life and make it a home from home for everyone.
Since January 2013, we’ve been recreating the Mansion House as a place for the local community to come together to discover Shared Reading, explore local history, enjoy a bite to eat or an ice cream, to be creative, meet new people, to relax and discover new opportunities. And we have big plans for the years ahead.
We’ve raised almost £4 million in funds to restore and showcase the Neolithic standing stones which give the park it’s name, repair the dilapidated Mansion House and redevelop the site as the International Centre for Shared Reading, building a community hub with activities and opportunities for all.
The doors of the Mansion House closed in January 2017 to allow work to begin but we are still very much open for business. The Reader’s Shared Reading groups continue to run at the nearby Coach House where the Gallery is also open as usual. The Reader Café and Ice Cream Parlour are open for business and our interactive children’s story centre, The Storybarn continues to welcome school groups and families from across the North West to explore, share and discover their love of books.
